Twinscape’s latest project was recently completed in London. The client had a young family who enjoyed swimming but they also wanted a play area that was secure, safe & dry. They liked the fact that a movable floor would give them peace of mind during social functions or when the children had access to the room unsupervised.
Maha Phillips of Haines Phillips Architects contacted David Bland of Portrait Pools, an award winning luxury swimming pool construction company, about the project and the movable floor. The architect had already sold the idea of a movable floor swimming pool to the family. Motivating factors of space and safety meant it was a practical and appealing solution.
The project took 6 months in total to complete. A basement addition was added under the rear garden. Entrances from the existing basement provided access to the new leisure facility for all the family & guests to enjoy - all without compromising the garden or any of the original usable space of the property.
The dimensions of the pool were 9 x 4 x 1.3 meters in a 12 x 6 meter room.
As the room links into the existing basement, they incorporated the floor and swimming pool into the existing style.
As you can see from the photo, the use of light and the transparent stairwell all help to create a bright and airy space in an area in a basement which could easily become too dark and dungeon like. Instead what they have created is a beautiful, light and tranquil room which incorporates contemporary style with a timeless elegance.
Located on the magical Kiawah Island in South Carolina, this stunning outdoor swimming pool was the ‘brainchild’ of several minds – the family who owns the pool, the architects, contractor, pool designer, interior designer and Twinscape.

More DetailsA client in Suffolk chose a movable floor for his swimming pool on the suggestion of the architect. This was not the first swimming pool the client had having previously installed one at another of his homes and this house did already have a pool but it needed renovating. The architect suggested they rebuild the whole pool to incorporate a movable floor and make the area into a flexible entertainment space.
