Tommy
Quality and Service Engineer
I started taking things apart at a young age, thanks entirely to my Grandad giving me my first screw driver, much to my Mum’s horror. In fact, I took her kitchen apart for her one day while she was in the lounge unaware of what I was doing! After this initial incident, I was banned from experimenting in the house. I then spent most weekends making thing in my Grandad’s shed.
I have always had a passion for learning how things work and that’s never stopped.
I studied engineering at college and did a BTEC GNVQ level 2. Afterwards I was keen to put my knowledge into working practise and started looking for work. In my job search I quickly realised I needed welding experience too so I started a welding apprenticeship one day a week at college in between working with general steel work and installations.
As soon as I qualified I was offered a job at ADM which at the time was making some of the best stage show equipment in the world. It was a very exciting time which gave me the chance to learn about moving swimming pool floors and I literally fell in love with the idea and the system, controls and hydraulics.
I still continued to study in the evenings completing my City & Guilds in an electrical course which was two nights a week in the evening. I still believe in the concept of continuing to learn and train no matter how long you have been in the workforce.
I have now spent 25 years working with hydraulics, electrics and welding and fabricating on moving swimming pool floors and really believe there is no one more experienced with this product. With Twinscape we have continued developing the products and now boast an unrivalled system. I love that I have the opportunity within my work to take things apart, improve and modify them and put them back together. The team we work will all love what they do and that passion goes into our products.
I have three beautiful children that mean the world to me. I hope that they are going to discover their vocation in life and do something they really enjoy for a living just like I did. In fact it could soon be time to give them their first screwdrivers - just like my Grandad did with me!
